Six go to Green Man Festival!

The Twenties are let loose...

This summer, six lucky young people attended Green Man Festival, undertaking some very important research and development - and having a lot of fun in the process!

The group, a selection of our 'Twenties' were thrown head first into the action - for some, this was their first festival! They made it their mission to see as much of the festival as possible, including meeting with some important outdoor arts organisers. Here's a short blog written by Melody about her experience at the festival.

Settling in

I have always wanted to go to Green Man festival - it looked to be the perfect blend of wholesomeness and hedonism, whilst being nestled into a beuatiful corner of Wales, not too far from home. My expectations going in were high. I cut a family holiday in Cornwall short to be there, and I knew I'd be with a group of people I hadn't seen in years (since my own days in MPYT in 2017) and I was full of aprehension - what if we didn't get along? What if it rained the whole time? What if I was too tired after my long drive up from the south coast to enjoy myself? But as soon as I was arrived as was greeted with huge hugs from the group, my worries melted away, and excitement fizzled up.

Costume Change!

We started with an explore of the whole festival grounds; getting our bearings and checking out the line-ups, hightlighting all the performing arts installations we absolutely couldn't miss. Then, after a hearty meal of pasta pesto that I whipped up for the group on my trangia, the fun commenced. It became a weekend to truly remember: one filled with good food, exceptional music, inspiring performances, mind-boggling walkabouts, bonding moments and some very questionable dance moves.

A highlight of mine was volunteering for a live hairstyling by the Cabaret act Sienta La Cabeza. I was super excited - what a fun opportunity to be on stage, and why not get a funky hairstyle out of it? I had no idea what I was getting myself into. To the joyful sound of latin dance music, a beautiful Spanish woman took to my hair, combing, spraying, painting and clipping, whilst my friends - and a substantial audience - gleefully watched my transformation. Finally, i was turned to face the mirror, and confronted with my reflection - the new me! I LOVED IT! I spent the rest of the festival looking like this fantastic bird of paradise (yes - I slept with it in; and no - it was not a good night's sleep!).

Bring it on 2025!

We were well and truly overhwlemed with inspiration; the interative walkabouts captured our hearts and we knew that next year, we would be returning with a walkabout performance of our own. We spent hours brainstorming, devising, connecting strands and chatting with people at the festival to help bring our ideas to fruition. Who know's what we will create? Expect something tied to our Welsh roots - perhaps involving an ambitious puppet. But whatever we land upon, I can't wait to debut it at Green Man festival 2025!

The six will continue to refine their ideas throughout the coming months in the monthly MPYT+ sessions. If this sounds like something you'd like to be part of, you can find more info here.
